The reason you get stressed is not because you take on too many things. The reason you get stressed is because the level of self awareness you have for yourself! You are aware of many facts - but this is just a tiny part of who you really are. But how are you able to make good choices for yourself if you don't know the whole picture you are presenting to yourself and others?
Avoid stress - ENJOY success. The more you know about yourself, the more selective you'll be for any decision.
The ENJOY process will provide you with a plan to exactly do this - understand who you are! It includes the creation of a routine - your safety cushion in any challenging situation. A routine can be as solid as a rock in times of uncertainty.
Let me share with you an example what a difference a routine can make.
If you read my book, you'll find the story of Rick Rescorla and how he saved the life of over 2,000 people during the horrible attacks from September 11th, 2001.
Over years he created and implemented a routine. Being aware of the sensitive location of the offices of Morgan Stanley in the World Trade Center - the 22 top levels of the South Tower - he knew that any stressful situation could paralyze the employees. And this could mean the death of many people.
As the director of security, he practiced surprise fire drills over and over again - employees learned to forget to think. They had to drop anything to follow his directions and evacuate themselves. September 11th, 2001 everything came to a halt. Many people lost their lives. But the employees of Morgan Stanley followed his directions - and survived. They had been prepared. Even if many people complained about the time they "lost" for the fire drills - Rick Rescorla became a hero. His persistence and preparation over years - his routine was a life safer. The routine was in place when stress overwhelmed everyone else.
In stressful situations, clear thinking is not possible. It's about survival - for your brain. You want to have a routine in place that guides you in calmer waters. As I said - a safety cushion. To be your best self, you want to use the parasympathetic nervous system. This is the place creativity can work wonders. Your brain under stress will never be able to find the best solution for any challenge. To get there, you have to train yourself! It won't happen in an instant - as for Rick Rescorla and the employees of Morgan Stanley, it will take a time.
Now you know, WHY you need a routine. The next step: the HOW!
The first thing you want to do, is downloading the pdf files I share in my book with you. You can find it using the link "www.strengths4you.com/bonus-material". The best thing would be to print them out.
1. Secret contract - decide that you are ready for change. What got you here won't get you there. Fill in the contract and sign it. Right now.
2. The PLAN - start by filling in date, your name, your goal and - under "Action for E - Embrace" - your top 5 CliftonStrengths talent themes.
This PLAN will include pillars of the routine you are designing. I'll walk you through this process - step by step. Stay tuned. In the meantime, continue meditation every day.
Next Wednesday I will introduce you to your next step!
All the best,
